Conferences and Evaluations
Forms for evaluation of student teaching are available on the ESEE Field 350-353 Field Experience and ESEE 354 Student Teaching Laulima sites, they will be given to your mentors as appropriate. Teacher candidates and student teachers are evaluated on 10 Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC) standards that are aligned with the Hawaii Teacher Performance Standards and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Standards, as well as the ESEE Professional Dispositions. Teacher candidates and student teachers are responsible for scheduling mid- and end-of-semester conferences with their mentor teachers. Field supervisors may attend the end-of-semester conference, and all individuals must sign the evaluation forms. Field supervisors and cohort coordinators deliver evaluation forms to the Elementary Education department. Teacher candidates and student teachers must earn a passing score in all categories on the end-of-semester evaluations to pass.
See syllabi for grading criteria for each field experience ESEE 350-353. Teacher candidates must earn a grade of C or better in all field courses and maintain a GPA of 2.75 or better in order to remain in the program. Candidates may repeat a field course once.
The UHM field supervisors assigns a grade for ESEE 354: Student Teaching and your cohort coordinator assigns a separate grade for ESEE 355: Student Teaching Seminar. Student teachers must pass both courses with a C or better to graduate. See the syllabus for each course for the evaluation criteria.
